Description
This partlet is perfect to fill the deep necklines of french-style late renaissance gowns. Especially if your chemise (or undershirt) has a big cleavage, this partlet will do the job to grant your modesty in a period way.
Those late elizabethan partlets are usually worn over chemise and stays, but under the bodice of your dress – other than the earlier tudor-style partlets that were mostly made from black wool fabric, to keep the wearer warm, and therefore worn over the bodice.
Our partlet covers the bust and is made from lightweight white cotton fabric (100% cotton). It is decorated with a period blackwork embroidery, carried out in leaf patterns – which ismachine made, because doing that by hand would take ages and cost a fortune!
The 4cm high standing collar is decorated with a pleated ruff, it closes with a narrow satin ribbon, which runs through two handstitched eyelet holes at the collar – which is the actual period way of fastening.
Another satin ribbon runs through a tunnel at the hem – to tie it in place here, therefore it is adjustable, and you can wear the partlet either centre front to centre front, or draped back to form the typical A-shaped cleavage, that can be seen in many period paintings.
The high-necked partlet is also a great way to keep your ruff clean – just wear it over the partlet (you can get ruffs from us as well – have a look at our other listings for that!) – the partlet caneasily be washed and ironed – and to prevent shrinking, we wash all our fabrics before we start sewing, this also means that you can wear it right after unpacking – no more pre-washing needed!
Black was the most common colour for this type of embroidery, red and even blue silk thread was frequently used as well, we can make other colours, too.
We work with the german standard sizing system, so please check your measurements and choose your size accordingly.
If van’t find your size listed, just drop us a note – it’s usually not a problem to make this smaller or bigger as well!
