Description

Typical for late elizabethan fashion were large standing collars, which developped out of the ruff, that was first worn closed around the neck, then opened and later turned into a flat item, made from very delicate lace, stiffened and mounted on a wire frame – the so-called “supportasse” or “underpropper”.

Our model was inspired by the most beautiful of such collars – which were also called “Stuart collars” – but ours is much easier to wear, since you don’t have to attach it to your gown or use and additional wire frame – the base is made from a special transparenttulle that is much stiffer and sturdier than ordinary one. Five tunnels, made from satin bias tape, hold 6mm wide plastic bones, the complete outer edge is reinforced with millinery wire, which is hidden insidesatin bias tape.
This collar is a very versatile item, just tie it over your gown, at your back and adjust the shape slightly.

You can remove the ribbon and pin the collar in place, e.g. with decorative brooches (not included), as well – this method is a bit more secure. To hold theties, two handmade braid loops are added to the underside of the collar and are securely attached to the wire frame – if you want to wear the collar pinned to your gown, without the ribbon, the collar will look neat and perfect as well – and you can always re-attach the ribbon, if you want to go back to that option.

Thebase is decorated with a very delicate 4,5 cm(1,8inch) widelace trim, which makes 18cm / 7 inch height at the centre back (counting the back support in, it’s 27cm / 10,6 inch), and 12cm / 4,7 inch at the front – that makes a medium-sized collar which is easy to wear even at crowded events, but still looks great, giving you a regal appearance.

Overall six fabric rose heads are handsewn to the collar frame.
